The Munich manufacturer is ready tol launch new cars, new series and new accessory lines at the Geneva Motor Show.
BMW is going big at Geneva this year and at its epicenter are the new 2013 BMW 6 Series Grand Coupe, a 4-door coupe, a segment invented by Daimler with the Mercedes CLS, the new BMW M6 Coupe, and a new line of M Performance cars. New engines for the new 3-series will also be revealed and a set of M Performance Parts accessories for car decoration will be launched. Whether you call the new M Performance cars toned-down M Series or souped-up standard cars, enthusiasts who never dreamt of having the M moniker on their car will love them.
The first four models of this line are the M550d xDrive, M550d xDrive Touring, X5 M50d and X6 M50. Note that all the power units are turbo-diesel 6-cylinder in-line engines, with triple-turbo technology and common rail direct injection (BMW clarified these cars won't be sold in the US). The engine delivers 381hp and 546lb-ft of torque transmitted through an 8-speed sports automatic transmission to all four wheels. New series cars also get special treatment in order to enhance their handling and riding characteristics. Three engines will also be showcased for the new M6 Grand Coupe.
The TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder powered 2013 640i Gran Coupe is the initial model of the range, which will arrive in the US early this summer priced at $76,895 (including $895 Destination and Handling Charge). Later in the summer, the TwinPower Turbo V-8 powered 2013 BMW 650i Gran Coupe and the all-wheel drive 2013 BMW 650i xDrive Gran Coupe will join the range. A further premiere will be made by the new BMW M Performance Parts division who collaborated with BMW M GmbH to create powertrain, suspension, aerodynamics and cockpit components.
These should provide a tangible increase in driving dynamics by enhancing engine power, reducing weight and optimizing aerodynamic properties. The initial BMW M Performance products have been specially developed for the BMW 5 Series Sedan, the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new 1 Series (5-door model). The products include black kidney grills, M Performance exhaust systems and carbon-fiber front splitters. Geneva will also witness the premiere of original BMW accessories aimed at the new 3-Series Sedan, including exterior offerings ranging from 20-inch wheels to a fitted indoor/outdoor car cover.
The interior can also be customized with items such as high-quality all-weather floor mats, color-matched emergency brake handle, key fobs, rear storage, and backrest bags. For longer trips a lockable roof box and a snowboard holder is also available. Original BMW Accessories will be available from any authorized BMW Center.
