This is how BMW's best M car gets even better.
We've heard rumors that BMW is working on a hardcore variant of the M2 that will be similar to the M4 GTS. This hardcore M2 would offer more than the current 3.0-liter N55's 365 horsepower and come with weight saving measures like less sound deadening and more carbon fiber. Now, German publication Bimmer Today has some new information that brings this new M2 variant into focus. First, the model will likely use the CS (Club Sport) moniker rather than the CSL or GTS name. It should also get a big boost in the engine compartment.
The M2 CS could be given a detuned version of the M4's twin-turbo S55 engine. In the M3/M4, this engine produces 425 horsepower, but would likely produce around 400 hp in the M2 CS. This is far more that the base car's 365 hp, and it would be just enough to be competitive. The new Audi TT RS has a 2.5-liter five-cylinder with 400 hp and a 3.7 second 0-60 time. If the M2 CS does reach production, it will probably be a limited production model. We love the regular M2, but the addition of the M4's engine and GTS's suspension setup could turn it into the perfect M Car. We will keep you updated as we get more information, but expect to see the hardcore M2 variant in 2018.
