Just when you thought the Bugatti Chiron couldn't possibly get any more insane.
It's no secret that the 1,500 horsepower Bugatti Chiron will be mindbogglingly fast - its monstrous 8.0-liter, W16 quad-turbocharged engine will make it reach 0-62 mph in under 2.6 seconds, redefining what's possible in a production car. What is a secret, however, is its top speed. The speedometer shows a potential top speed of 310 mph, but Bugatti is limiting it to 261 mph, with no plans to test it without the limiter until next year. However, some tantalizing new information has surfaced that further demonstrates the Chiron's potential power.
Reported by Road and Track, EVO's Dan Prosser Tweeted a mind-blowing statistic that was apparently revealed during a dinner time conversation with Bugatti's CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer. If the Chiron's 0-62 mph time wasn't already impressive enough, Dürheimer claims that it will sprint from 0-250 mph and back to zero again in less than a minute, though Bugatti has since told Road and Track that this figure isn't confirmed as it hasn't been measured yet. Considering the Chiron's monumental power, that seems perfectly plausible, since it can accelerate from 0-124 mph in less than 6.5 seconds, and to 186 mph in under 13.6 seconds.
At this point, we don't need any more persuading that the Chiron will have potent performance. Remember how the Chiron raced around Le Mans faster than the racing machines specifically tuned for the competition, reaching a top speed of 236 mph? Yeah, something tell us that Bugatti is about to redefine the hypercar all over again.
