Late last month, Shelby Super Cars North America announced that its 1,750 horsepower Tuatara had finally entered production. It was first revealed in concept form back in 2012, and chances are it'll be worth the wait. We'll be finding out very soon. Why? Because SSC has now provided an update stating that the first production-spec Tuatara hypercar will be unveiled next month at Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach. The car's owner will be on hand to take delivery, but not until after show-goers will have time to see this likely Bugatti killer in the flesh.

"This event marks the beginning of a new era of production hypercars, as customers will begin taking delivery of their Tuataras," the company stated in the press release. "Although this is the first customer to take possession of a Tuatara, future customers and members of the press have had the opportunity to experience its extreme performance and track-level handling, hailing it for its comfort, drivability, and driving experience unlike any other car on the market."

Production is now underway and additional orders are being filled. This now means SSC is gearing up for what it calls "extreme performance validation," which clearly hints at high-speed performance runs. Perhaps the Koenigsegg Agera RS, currently the world's fastest production road car, should have something to worry about as well. SSC claims the Tuatara is capable of surpassing 300 mph. Its twin-turbo 5.9-liter V8 generates a total of 1,350 horsepower on regular fuel, and on E85 you'll get up to 1,750 hp. It also has a drag coefficient of 0.279, which is the lowest of any other hypercar so far. Total weight: just 2,750 pounds.

Not only will the SSC Tuatara be insanely fast in a straight line, but it's also a force to be reckoned with on the track thanks to a Track Mode that lowers the suspension and prompts the active wing to generate more downforce. SSC promised Tuatara production would kick off in the third quarter of this year, and that promise has been kept.
