Owning a 2022 Polestar 2 is an experience that will only get better over time. That's because the car is constantly changing and improving via over-the-air updates. The Swedish brand recently released an OTA power upgrade for the long-range dual-motor model. Using software alone, the car gained 67 horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torque, upping the total output to 469 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. The dual-motor Polestar 2 can hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and travel an EPA-estimated 249 miles on a charge.

But what if you value driving range more than performance? Well, Polestar continues to improve in that area as well. A few months ago, the luxury automaker unveiled a less expensive, single-motor version of the Polestar 2. This version produces 231 hp from its single electric motor mounted on the front axle. Though it's less potent than the dual-motor model, the single-motor car can go further on a charge.

Polestar initially predicted the single-motor Polestar 2 would travel around 260 miles on a single charge, improving upon the dual-motor model's range. Today, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has given the single-motor Polestar 2 a 270-mile range, beating estimates by 10 miles. This is well below the Tesla Model 3 Long Range's 334-mile estimate, but slightly outmatches the upcoming Model 3 Single-Motor, which is estimated at 267 miles. Polestar even undercuts Tesla on price, starting at $45,900 before federal tax credits.

"We are pleased to announce the longest range of any Polestar yet," said Gregor Hembrough, Head of Polestar in North America. "Alongside continual range improvements, we continue to offer new conveniences for our customers free of charge via OTA software downloads."

In addition to the optional power upgrade, Polestar 2 owners can receive other improvements via OTA updates. This includes the ability to schedule charging sessions, allowing drivers to take advantage of off-peak electricity pricing. In addition, the car can now precondition its battery when a DC charger is set as a navigation destination, thus improving the charge time. Polestar will continue to supply OTA updates to its customers, improving the cars with each one.
