When Porsche took the covers off the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, it didn't take very long for all who sampled it to realize that the car is like a cut-price 911 GT3. In fact, some even prefer it over the 911 due to the fact that the GT4 RS is easier to predict and control. That intake noise directly behind your ears is hard to beat too. But what happens when you chop the top on the Cayman GT4 RS?

We'll know very soon, as Porsche has been spied testing the 718 Boxster Spyder RS around the infamous Nordschleife, and with the top down, we get a sneak preview of some of its unique features.

We've spotted the car with its soft top in place before and we have to say that it looks much sexier with the roof down. Even in this pre-production body, the most aggressive Boxster ever looks magnificent. The interior should be just as fantastic, as we can see what appear to be Weissach RS seats, indicating that this new offering will be offered with the track-focused Weissach package. For a Porsche with the RS moniker, this almost goes without saying, but it's nice to get confirmation anyway.

As before, the vented fenders and hood, aggressive splitters, and ducktail spoiler are clearly evident and look spectacular, as do the additional intake ducts behind the cabin and those center-lock wheels.

Naturally, such an extreme Porsche sports car is unlikely to be offered en masse alongside regular 718 products, so don't expect to be able to order one of these unless you're high up on Porsche's list of its favorite customers. But if you do get the opportunity to snag one of these beauties, what kind of performance can you look forward to?

Well, we predict that the same powertrain seen in the GT4 RS will make its way here, which means a naturally aspirated flat-six will be borrowed from the 911 GT3. In the Cayman GT4 RS, that means 493 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. In a sports car with no roof, that should be more than adequate. All that remains to be seen is if this can still make headlines as the 911 GT3 RS is due for an imminent reveal, and that reveal will be tough to beat.
