Few to no cars exist that offer what the Fiat 500 Abarth does: an awesome power-to-weight-ratio, daily drivability, possibly too much fun behind the wheel, and an affordable sticker price. The Mazda MX-5 Miata comes to mind but remember, that's a two-seater whereas the 500 Abarth has a small and somewhat human usable rear seat. Consider it partial savings on your insurance. We managed to snag some time at the wheel of the 2017 Fiat 500 Abarth and we were immediately reminded why we love to drive.

With a base price of only $22,575, you get a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-four with 157 hp at 5,500 rpm and 183 lb-ft of torque at 2,400 rpm. Power goes to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or the $1,350 six-speed automatic.

We'd prefer to save a bit of dough and keep the manual but we get how it's not ideal for everyone. What's also nice about this little street legal go-kart is how fuel efficient it is, with a combined 27 mpg. It's no Fiat 500e but still. Our tester came with several options, including $600 GPS navigation and the $975 Customer Preferred Package, for a grand total of $28,895. You don't always need to spend a small fortune to drive around in performance fun. Special thanks to DGDG.com for letting us film the car.
