A big vehicle brings a big haul for charity.
The first 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV just sold at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction for $500,000. All proceeds from the sale benefit Tread Lightly!, a charity group that focuses on promoting outdoor recreation and maintaining healthy ecosystems through educational programs.
"We're proud to support Tread Lightly! and their mission through the monumental sale of VIN 001 of the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV at Barrett-Jackson," said Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC. "We're honored to start the year off with this donation to a great cause. With the continued support of Barrett-Jackson to make this donation 100 percent a charitable endeavor, proceeds will support Tread Lightly! and their mission of environmental conservation."
"We can't thank the GMC brand and Barrett-Jackson enough for this amazing support," said Matt Caldwell, Executive Director of Tread Lightly! "This funding will make numerous trail restorations projects and educational programs possible in areas across the country. These projects are at the heartbeat of what we do as we work to 'protect the adventure' for everyone."
It seems like Tread Lightly! and the Hummer were tailor made for each other. The Hummer EV SUV offers up to 830 horsepower via three electric motors. That means it can silently go off-road without emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere or disturbing the wild life.
The first Hummer EV Pickup sold at auction for $2.5 million back in 2021, so someone got a pretty good deal on the first SUV. Reservations for the SUV are currently booked up with full production set to begin later this year at GM's Factory Zero Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly. Through all of 2022, GMC only sold 854 units of the Hummer Pickup, so the added capacity for the SUV should drastically improve sales.
The Edition 1 will be the only model available at launch with every one finished in an exclusive Moonshot Green Matte paint. Pricing for the Edition 1 SUV starts at $105,595, but more affordable versions will be available at a later date.
