There's only one problem if you live in the US.
After a nearly 20-year hiatus, the BMW 8 Series grand tourer made a triumphant return last year and went on to spawn the high-performance M8 for the first time in the model's history. To celebrate, BMW Canada and BMW M have collaborated to create the first-ever special-edition M8 Coupe.
Dubbed the "BMW M8 Individual Manufaktur Edition," it's based on the 2020 BMW M8 Competition and will be sold exclusively in the Canadian market. Only 20 examples are planned. And no, we're not sure why BMW decided to make the first special-edition M8 exclusive to Canada either, but hopefully there will be a US equivalent soon.
Two versions of the M8 Individual Manufaktur Edition will be available with different paint jobs. Our favorite of the two is the Fire Red Edition, which pays homage to the original M8 Coupe prototype BMW built in the early '90s, while the Frozen Black Edition "speaks to the M8 Coupe's dominant position amongst luxury sports coupes". Elsewhere, the exterior gets the full M Performance treatment with carbon fiber side skirts carbon fibre kidney grille and M Performance carbon fiber side air curtain vents giving the car an aggressive appearance. Only ten examples of each special edition will be produced.
"BMW M is delighted to be collaborating with BMW Canada to launch the very first M8 Individual Manufaktur Editions worldwide" stated Marcus Flasch, CEO of BMW M GmbH, adding: "As one of the strongest markets globally for BMW M, Canada is a natural market in which to introduce these ultra-exclusive exclusive flagship models which are poised to fulfill the promise of the original M8 prototype".
Inside, both special editions will feature BMW Individual Full Merino Leather in an exclusive two-tone Sakhir Orange/Black treatment with Sakhir Orange contrast stitiching throughout the cabin. A "BMW Individual Manufaktur" inscription on the carbon fiber cupholder and wireless charging tray also highlight the model's exclusivity.
Like all M8 Competition models, power is provided by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine delivering 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 BMW M8 Individual Manufaktur Editions will debut at select Canadian BMW dealers in October 2019 with prices starting at $198,000 CAD.
