Official power figures have been revealed!
Read it and weep, Volkswagen Golf R, Subaru WRX STI, and because heck, why not, the soon to be departed Mitsubishi Evo. Ford has just released official output figures for its new Focus RS. Originally we were told it'd have at least 315 hp. That soon became 345 ponies and 324 lb-ft of torque. All rubbish. Try a certified 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm, all thanks to its 2.3-liter turbo four banger. The sole transmission: a six-speed manual, and the awesomeness doesn't end there; it has a Stall Recovery feature.
This function will automatically restart the engine in the event of a stall, so no need for drivers to do a manual restart. Sweet. According to Tyrone Johnson, engineering and vehicle manager for Ford Performance Europe, "We knew we wanted to put start-stop technology in the RS. So we said, 'What if we went one step further, and controlled for engine stall at launch using the same technology?' Well, that's exactly what we did and it's just as fast as our start-stop technology." Production will get underway before the year is over.
