The Gorgeous BMW 8 Series Will Begin Production Next Year

The convertible will come in 2019. And the M8?

BMW is wasting no time in turning the 8 Series Concept into a production model. Clearly, that was the plan all along because, as Auto News Europe reports, 8 Series coupe production will commence next year, while the convertible version will get underway in 2019. The new flagship, a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe, will be built at BMW's Dingolfing facility in Germany, alongside the 3, 4, 5, and 7 Series (and, eventually, the iNext).

This production plant currently has an output of 369,000 vehicles annually, and the plan going forward is to increase that number. Although BMW hasn't specifically stated so, it's a fair assumption the M8 will commence production alongside the coupe. Just one look at the concept and it's quite clear that it's close to production ready. Obviously some things will change, specifically the side mirrors, wheel size and possibly some slightly toned down styling, but the concept is roughly 90 percent there. We've already seen BMW-produced spy shots of the M8 in camouflage, so that's your closest indicator as to how the final cars will look.

Assuming BMW plans on sticking with that 2018 launch date (and BMW isn't known for missing its set deadlines), then there's a very good chance we'll see the 8 Series coupe and M8 coupe appear in production form as early as this March at Geneva.
