Dodge may have been a few years behind with a Mustang and Camaro fighter of its own during the classic muscle car era, but it more than made up for that delay when it launched the Challenger in 1970. It was originally set to compete against the Mercury Cougar, while the Plymouth Barracuda would handle the Ford and Chevy. The Challenger sold well at first but it never enjoyed the sales numbers of its rivals. However, the original Challenger has earned its rightful place as one of the greatest muscle cars ever.
