So far, we haven't seen anything really concrete from Hyundai's N performance division other than a few crazy concept cars. But now we finally get a taste of the N brand in action. Hyundai is planning to enter the Nurburgring 24 Hours race with three models, one of which will be a prototype of the upcoming i30 Turbo N hatchback. The i30 is the first model in a series of performance models that Hyundai hopes to grow into a fully fledged rival for BMW's M division. After hearing this car blast around the ring, we are finally excited for Hyundai's N brand.

The i30 will get a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which Hyundai claims is 40% new. The car will also have better brakes and suspension as well as wider fenders. Horsepower should be around 260.

What gets us most excited about this car is finally getting to hear it in action. The engine has a nice grunt, with the appropriate little barks on the upshift akin to a slightly toned-down Jaguar F-Type. We haven't been kind about Hyundai's N brand in the past, but its first real showing might have us eating our words.
