The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 Sets New Nurburgring Lap Record

Meet the fastest production sedan to tackle the "Green Hell."

With an official time of 7:21.23, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is now the fastest production sedan to lap the Nurburgring. The previous record holder, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, clocked a time of 7:32 - a full 11 seconds slower! Holy crap. Needless to say, the 592-hp XE SV Project 8 is Jaguar's most extreme street-legal ever. With its 0-60 mph time of just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph, the $187,500 XE SV Project 8 is certainly worth every penny and Jaguar will have absolutely no problems selling all 300 examples.

Without question Jaguar accomplished what it set out to do: build the most track-focused road-legal Jaguar in its history. Compared to the standard XE, only the roof and front door skins have been carried over. A full 75 percent of its mechanical hardware is new.

In other words, Jaguar just didn't stuff its most powerful engine, the supercharged 5.0-liter V8, into the XE and call it a day. Where's the fun in that? Instead, Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) has created something epic. No doubt the likes of Alfa Romeo and the previous brand to hold the production sedan Ring record, Porsche, will return to fight another day. But for now, the glory belongs to the Jaguar XE SV Project 8. Interested in buying one of the 300 global examples? Head over to the Jaguar website to register interest.
