The Koenigsegg Agera RS recently toppled the Bugatti Veyron SS and Hennessey Venom GT to become the world's fastest production car. The Agera RS set a total of five world records on November 4, 2017 outside of Las Vegas, Nevada on that 11-mile stretch of highway. For starters, it achieved a top speed of 277.87 mph, a calculated average speed based on two runs. The second record set was the 0-249-0 mph record. The Agera RS actually beat its own previous time of 36.44 seconds set by the same car in Denmark last month.

The new time is 33.29 seconds, soundly defeating the previous record holder, the Bugatti Chiron at 41.96 seconds. The third record is, of course, the highest speed achieved on a public road (284.55 mph). Aside from the aforementioned three, the other two records include the Flying Kilometer on a public road at 445.54 kmh, and the Flying Mile on a public road at 276.36 mph, both of which were calculated after running the car in two directions. Koenigsegg further claims both of those records previously stood for 80 years, set by Mercedes-Benz on January 28, 1938 with a recorded average speed of 432.7 kmh, or 268 mph. This was done in a modified version of the Mercedes W125 racecar along a section of the German Autobahn.

But unlike that Mercedes, this Agera RS is a customer car fitted with the one-megawatt engine upgrade for a total of 1,360 hp and 1,011 lb-ft of torque. Koenigsegg has also prepared an excellent blog post with even more details about each of these five newly set records, such as what kind of tires were used and various other equipment. Will Bugatti and/or Hennessey respond in kind in the near future? Probably. Remember, records are always meant to be broken. Eventually. In the meantime, congratulations Koenigsegg.
