Aventador Ultimae

Lamborghini recently made supercar fans the world over weak at the knees with the reveal of the Aventador Ultimae, the last-ever Aventador. It's a spectacular send-off for the unassisted V12 power plant, and while Lamborghini has been keeping its cards close when it comes to what future engines will be like, the good news is that the V12 will survive in some manner beyond the death of the Aventador.

But back to the Ultimae. This car is loaded with all the best that any Aventador before had to offer, as well as some stunning bespoke design elements. We've ventured guesses among ourselves as to which of these new design flourishes will feature on the Aventador's successor, but as it turns out, the Ultimae is not a preview of things to come in any way.

Speaking with Autocar, Lamborghini CEO Stefan Winkelmann said that the Ultimae is its own vehicle and its successor will be totally unique: "The Ultimae is a design that comes out of the tradition of the Aventador. The follow-up will be a completely different cup of tea, much like going from the Murcielago to the Aventador."

As much as we love the Aventador, we're excited to see what the Italian automaker has in store for the future, but one thing that we know for sure is that if any brand has the ability to consistently wow onlookers time after time without losing its own personality, it's Lamborghini.

While we dare not guess how Lamborghini will restyle the Aventador's successor - at least not yet - the brand has something of a pattern that we can reference. Both the Huracan and the Aventador were sultry but sharp designs that were already more aggressive than those of their predecessors at first and got gradually more radical as new special editions of each were revealed.

With that in mind, we expect the Aventador replacement to be something that blows our socks off, but with restraint. Remember, Lamborghini makes a ton of cash from special editions, so while we know the Aventador successor will look vastly different to the current car, you can bet that it will evolve to become even more extreme as the years go by.
