The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) just received two new special loaners to its arsenal to catch criminals: the Tesla Model S P895D and BMW i3. One is a supercar killer, while the other is an environmentally friendly option. According to the police department, "these vehicles will be used for testing and research by LAPD technical experts to determine how this technology can support their future needs." Apparently, Mayor Eric Garcetti is planning to lease 160 electric vehicles with 100 of those vehicles for the LAPD.

The planning behind the electric vehicles is to give Los Angeles the biggest city-owned pure EV fleet in the US. "Today, we take another step toward becoming the must sustainable city in America," stated Garcetti. "This year, Los Angeles will become home to the largest city-owned fleet of pure battery electric vehicles anywhere in the country, and we will save taxpayer dollars along the way." While the i3 is an interesting choice for a police department, we can't think of a better electric vehicle than the Model S. The LAPD recently purchased 23 electric scooters and three electric motorcycles that are used by patrol officers. So the Model S and the i3 are much better alternatives.
