The LAPD Just Added These Electric Vehicles In The Fight Against Crime

Police

Are these vehicles a good choice for the cops?

The Los AngelesPolice Department (LAPD) just received two new special loaners to its arsenal tocatch criminals: the Tesla Model S P895D and BMW i3. One is a supercar killer, while the other is an environmentally friendly option. According to the policedepartment, "these vehicles will be used for testing and research by LAPDtechnical experts to determine how this technology can support their futureneeds." Apparently, Mayor Eric Garcetti is planning to lease 160 electricvehicles with 100 of those vehicles for the LAPD.

The planningbehind the electric vehicles is to give Los Angeles the biggest city-owned pureEV fleet in the US. "Today, we take another step toward becoming the mustsustainable city in America,” stated Garcetti. “This year, Los Angeles willbecome home to the largest city-owned fleet of pure battery electric vehiclesanywhere in the country, and we will save taxpayer dollars along the way." Whilethe i3 is an interesting choice for a police department, we can’t think of abetter electric vehicle than the Model S. The LAPD recently purchased 23 electricscooters and three electric motorcycles that are used by patrol officers. Sothe Model S and the i3 are much better alternatives.
