Last year, Mercedes unveiled the all-new G-Class, representing the first time the rugged off-roader had been redesigned since its inception in 1979. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic G-Wagon, and to celebrate Mercedes is launching not one, not two, but three special edition models dubbed the "Stronger in Time" edition.

Exclusively available for the special model is the automaker's new inline six-cylinder diesel engine available as the G 400 d, which produces 330 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Alternatively, Mercedes is also offering a G500 version of the Stronger In Time edition packing a high-performance 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine producing 422 hp and 449 lb-ft of torque. Both models include the AMG Line package that adds flared wheel arches, aggressive AMG bumpers, an exterior protective strip, and brake calipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering. The G500 also gets a sports exhaust system as part of the AMG Line package.

A standard Night Package gives the special model darkened lights as well as outside mirrors, a spare wheel ring, design elements in the bumpers in obsidian black, and tinted rear windows. Standard equipment includes a Driving Assistance Package, Suspension with adaptive damping system, Parking Package with 360-degree camera, Multibeam LED headlights, and more. Available exterior colors include Manganite Grey Magno, Monza Grey Magno, Citrine Brown Magno, Olive Metallic, Diamond White, Obsidian Black, and Mojave Silver. Both models ride on 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels.

Further distinguishing the special edition models is a surround lamp that projects the "G" logo and the lettering "Stronger in time" onto the asphalt. This lettering is also found on each of the badges on the outside on the A-pillar and in the leather-covered grab handle in front of the front passenger seat. Two interior designs are available, including a traditional cabin that features black Nappa leather with golden topstitching as well as trim elements in open-pore black ash. A more exclusive variant can also be had with a luxury two-tone interior.

It isn't just the G-Class' 40th anniversary Mercedes is celebrating, however. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the first AMG G-Class. To commemorate this anniversary, the mighty Mercedes-AMG G63 is getting its own "Stronger in Time" edition with a grille finished in dark chrome, while the running boards, tailpipes, and the outside mirror housings feature a matt chrome finish. 22-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels painted in matte black with a high-sheen finish are also exclusive to the anniversary model.

Inside, the luxurious interior features two-tone Black/Titanium Grey Pearl Nappa leather, AMG carbon-fiber trim elements and grab handles in Nappa leather. The instrument panel is also covered in Nappa leather, with the top in black and the bottom in Titanium Grey Pearl. The words "Stronger in Time" are also projected on the entrance area when stepping inside and are engraved in the insert on the grab handle on the front passenger side. No word yet on US availability for the Mercedes G-Class Stronger in Time editions, but we'll keep you updated.
