Hennessey has announced that production and delivery of the VelociRaptor 500 Bronco Raptor have finally begun, following a strenuous cold-weather testing program in the snow-covered mountains of Colorado. The company's engineering team has signed off on the high-performance SUV, meaning customers can now enjoy the 500-horsepower SUV nationwide.

The high power outputs are courtesy of engine management system tuning and a new high-capacity intercooler (with a blow-off valve), which has also boosted torque to 550 lb-ft. Hennessey says the VelociRaptor took the Rocky Mountains in its stride, easily dismissing snowstorms. The upgraded 37-inch off-road tires helped, enhancing the already impressive capabilities of the off-roader.

As a reminder, the stock Bronco Raptor produces 418 hp and 448 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Hennessey hasn't messed with the Raptor's Tonka-truck exterior, merely adding a few subtle enhancements. LED off-road lights and custom VelociRaptor bumpers are standard, as are the rugged-looking 10-spoke wheels. VelociRaptor 500 badging lets road users know you're not driving a regular Bronco. Inside, you'll find a build number plaque, Hennessey-branded embroidered headrests, and all-weather floor mats.

The tuner/boutique supercar maker hasn't changed the suspension, however. Then again, the Raptor has one of the best off-road setups money can buy. The High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) system receives FOX Bypass Semi-Active Dampers tuned specifically for the Bronco Raptor. Sensors can detect changes in the terrain and adjust the suspension if necessary.

"The VelociRaptor 500 Bronco is one of our most agile and capable off-road offerings - it's nearly unstoppable off the pavement," said founder and CEO John Hennessey.

"Our 500 horsepower upgrade pairs perfectly with Ford's rugged Bronco Raptor 4x4 as we improve upon the factory's high-performance offering and enhance it with more power and a more aggressive appearance," he added.

Potential customers will need to act fast, as Hennessey plans on making just 200 units of the VelociRaptor 500 Bronco for the 2023 model year. The upgrade kit comes at a hefty $32,950, which doesn't include the price of the car. If you can get a Bronco Raptor at MSRP - which appears to be a challenge - you'll pay a grand total of $111,530.

That makes it pricier than the new F-150 Raptor R, which wades into battle with a 700-hp supercharged V8. Still, the exclusivity and upgraded power the VelociRaptor 500 Bronco provides will appeal to most customers.
