The Most Popular Crossover In The US Just Got A Sleek New Look And More Tech

Bet you didn't know it was a Buick.

Can you name the most popular small SUV in America? Surprise, it’s the Buick Encore. Seriously. You might not know it but Buick’s little SUV—which looks a bit like a spiffier Chey Trax—has been on a roll since it debuted three years ago. In fact, the little guy made up almost a third of Buick’s sales in 2015. Buick has a good thing going and decided to capitalize on that by debuting the new 2017 Encore at the 2017 New York Auto Show.

The Encore isn’t really about performance, so we’ll leave its 1.4-liter turbo-four and six-speed auto alone for now. No, what this little crossover offers is luxury and tech in a nice looking package. The squished look may not be for everyone but the updated grille and headlights certainly look good. The Encore’s hood also looks to have been trimmed down a bit and overall the crossover looks to sit a bit more upright. In addition to the refreshed looks there’s also new 18-inch wheels and heated exterior mirrors. Around back there’s a new chrome exhaust outlet and wrapping up the exterior additions are three new paint colors: Black Cherry Metallic, Ebony Twilight Metallic and White Frost Metallic.

Inside, the 2017 Encore boasts Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; WiFi hotspot comes as standard. Controlling all that action is an 8-inch touchscreen integrated into the center console, while sitting in the middle of the gauge cluster is a 4.2-inch color screen that display’s information to the driver. It's no GCC circa 1986, but it will do...for now. The Encore’s bread and butter is offering luxury SUV features in a compact package, and to that end the 2017 model doesn’t disappoint. There are five trims available so we doubt the interior in the press photos (live shots are in white) comes standard. But if you’re willing to shell out some dough you’ll get a crossover with leather to spare. There’s no word on pricing but the 2017 Buick Encore will hit dealerships this fall.
