The Durango SRT's exclusive new Redline Stripe package is here at last.
For 2021, Dodge's trusty Durango mid-size utility vehicle will be getting a full refresh - and most notably, one that will mark the introduction of a brand new Hellcat-powered model, along with the arrival of FCA's eTorque mild-hybrid system on certain models.
Alas, the 2021 Durango program has reportedly been delayed by some three months due to fallout from the global pandemic. But before the updated Durango arrives, Dodge is keeping the 2020 lineup moderately fresh with expanded appearance package options, one of which is now available for order: the SRT Redline Stripe package.
Exclusive to the 2020 Dodge Durango SRT with the 475-horsepower 6.4L Hemi V8, the Redline Stripe package was first announced at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show. The package adds some appropriately sporty-looking matte black Le Mans stripes with thin Redline Red accent stripes along the outer borders. The matte black with red stripes join a menu that already includes Le Mans stripe packages in Bright Blue, Flame Red, Sterling Silver, and Gunmetal Low Gloss.
But the Redline Stripe option carries a suggested retail price of $1,295 - a full $100 more than those other stripe options, owing to its greater visual complexity. Is it really worth $100 more for the SRT-only combo with matte black stripes and scant red accents? Yes. Absolutely, yes.
Adding another racing stripe package to the 2020 Dodge Durango SRT's roster may seem like an insignificant thing, but it actually demonstrates how well FCA understands its customer base. Appearance packages and special-edition models are big business for the automaker, and according to the company's North American Head of Passenger Cars, Tim Kuniskis, a full 60 percent of Durango R/T sales in 2019 included the optional Blacktop Package. That add-on included 20-inch wheels finished in high-gloss black, gloss black wing mirrors, and black badging.
In other words, don't be surprised when you start seeing a lot of Redline Stripe-equipped 2020 Durango SRTs on the road real soon.
