The arrival of the Acura NSX Type S is bittersweet, at least from our perspective. We've been clamoring for an even more powerful Type S variant since the second-generation NSX's debut back in 2016. Repeated questions about the subject to Acura officials were brushed off every time we asked. But we'll be getting our wish on August 12 when the 2022 NSX Type S debuts. Alas, the upcoming model year, very sadly, will be this NSX's last. There's the rub.

Today, Acura has released a new Type S teaser in the form of an eight-second soundtrack of that turbocharged V6 doing its thing.

Acura says the Type S will be "faster than ever." The clip also shows a very brief close-up shot of the upgraded engine. So far, Acura hasn't given any specifics about those enhancements, but this clip is the best indicator yet that the V6 will have more than 573 horsepower.

Bear in mind this won't be an entirely new engine but rather an enhanced version of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 and Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system. So, will the Type S be considerably faster than the regular NSX, which boasts a 0-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed in excess of 193 mph?

Ideally, we'd love to see output increase to around 650 hp range and top speed to crest 200 mph. There's also a good chance that engineers have improved the hybrid supercar's suspension, brakes, and overall handling capabilities. After all, this is the car's final iteration so it's vital to get everything right. Acura needs to build the car it's always dreamed of doing.

Just 350 examples are planned, 300 of which will remain stateside. Pricing likely won't be anything less than $200,000 but we'll get that information and much more next Thursday when the 2022 Acura NSX Type S is unveiled at Monterey Car Week in California.
