Finally.
Travel back in time to 2016 and you'll find a CarBuzz article claiming that the DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) would be launching a new car in 2017. There was even a pre-order list, but as we all know, nothing really came of that. The company, responsible for the iconic DMC DeLorean of Back To The Future movie franchise fame, seems hellbent on bringing a new car to market, and in January of last year we once again reported that a new DeLorean was on its way. In the meantime, other iconic cars such as the GMC Hummer have already received EV powertrains, while classic DeLoreans are being kept alive with modern engine swaps. But it seems like DMC is finally showing some commitment to a new model.
According to DMC, the world will get its first sneak peak of the new DeLorean EV on Thursday, August 18 at the Awards Ramp at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
"Excitement is rising like the doors of our iconic sports car, and we are revealing the next generation prototype 3 days earlier than planned on the most prestigious stage at Pebble beach" said Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company Inc.
After the reveal, the new car will be on display at the Concept Lawn at Pebble Beach on August 21. The reveal will also include the announcement of the official new name for this exciting DMC product.
DMC has been teasing the new car over several days, slowly revealing a few of its angles, including its left shoulder and taillight. DMC is currently based in Texas and is planning on building 50 to 100 of the original DeLorean cars in conjunction with the new car. So far very little is known about the power and range specs of the new DeLorean, but more should be revealed along the way to the Pebble Beach reveal in August.
