In the United States, we can buy a rebadged version of the Opel Insignia sedan. It's called the Buick Regal, and as well as having a different name, it has different engines. Unfortunately, the sedan is the only body style on offer, although we do get the 260-horsepower GS version. Buick has announced that it will kill off the smaller Verano sedan, so the next generation Regal may have to fill the void. To do this, a base 1.5-liter turbocharged engine will likely be introduced, although the GS will continue to be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo.

According to the GMInsideNews forum, the next generation Regal was shown off in a Texas dealer meeting. Rumors have come from these meetings that a wagon variant of the Regal was shown. The Opel Insignia has always come as a wagon, a pretty good looking one at that. This might be the first indication that we will finally get this coveted model in the US. We will watch to see if any more news is revealed about a possible Buick wagon, and hopefully a hardcore GS version. The new Regal is expected to reach dealerships in 2017 as a 2018 model.
