OK everyone, try not to get too excited here.
So we’ve made it clear many times that we’re not fans of Smart cars. Most of you aren’t either. They’re not exactly for speed enthusiasts. They have, however, created a loyal following amongst those who own and drive them in crowded cities. So there’s that. But the outgoing Smart car generation was also tuned by Brabus, giving the city car something of an edge. And now with the arrival of the upcoming redesigned model, Brabus will once again give it the performance treatment.
Our spy photographer just managed to snap several images of a completely camouflage-free prototype. Clearly visible are its twin exhaust setup, a lowered sports suspension, larger wheels, and upgraded brakes. There’s even a rear diffuser and front spoiler. Performance will be increased to between 120 and 130 horsepower. It’s still unknown whether Brabus has upgraded the 0.9-liter turbo three-cylinder engine or if they went with the larger 1.2-liter engine from Renault. A debut at Geneva this March is likely.
