The French automaker will release this sweet ride in 2015, sources report.
According to recent reports, Peugeot is planning to take onthe newest European FWD hot-hatch king, the Seat Leon Cupra, by churning out aperformance version of its popular 308 family hatchback. Collaborating withPeugeot Sport, the company’s racing division, the automaker should introducethis car as early as next year. The company is basing its decision on thesuccess of other performance-oriented renditions of its stock cars, like the208 GTI and the RCZ R.
If the production 308 R is anything like the concept carthat Peugeot presented at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, it should be poweredby the RCZ R’s 1.6-liter 4-cylinder THP engine, which is tuned to deliver 270horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. Of course, all this goodness will not reachour shores, unless the company’s plan to re-enter the US market actually occurssometime in the near future.
