The Pininfarina Battista Is Officially The Quickest Road-Legal Production Car

Electric Vehicles / 6 Comments

It just smashed the quarter-mile in 8.55 seconds.

After beating Rimac with the fastest 0 to 60 mph time in the world, the Pininfarina Battista Hyper GT just set two new world records in the quarter-mile and half-mile. VBOX data systems measured the 1,877 horsepower electric hypercar crossing the quarter-mile mark in just 8.55 seconds, beating the 8.582-second time set by the 2022 Rimac Nevera.

The Battista then crossed the half-mile in 13.38 seconds, quicker than it takes a Toyota GR Corolla to do the quarter-mile-mind-blowing stuff.

The tests took place in India at the Indore Natrax facility. In collaboration with Autocar India, the car was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for a top-speed run. Autocar's Renuka Kirpalani clocked 357.10 kph (221.89 mph), earning Kirpalani the title of fastest Indian female driver in the world.

Both these top speed records were validated by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the Indian sporting body affiliated to the FIA.

The Battista is incredibly fast, but the Nevera is even faster, with a top speed of 258 mph, earning it the title of fastest electric production car in the world. Pininfarina does have the quicker car, as evidenced by the new quarter-mile, half-mile, and 0 to 60 mph times. The Battista hit 60 mph in just 1.79 seconds (beating the Nevera's 1.85-second time) and reached 120 mph in only 4.49 seconds.

"We were very proud to bring Battista to India for the first time. Collaborative events there with our shareholder Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd were delivered at a significant time for Automobili Pininfarina," said CEO Paolo Dellacha. "In 2022, we began production of Battista at our new Atelier facility in Italy, with deliveries to customers worldwide starting soon after."

"This year, new Battista owners are excited to explore the unprecedented performance of this design and engineering masterpiece. These speed records - and independent tests - have validated our ambition to create a new generation of hyper and luxury car leading with Battista, whereby electric power delivers performance that is simply unachievable in the world of ICE powertrains," he added.

"Nothing prepares you for the brutal acceleration and pace of the Battist," said Kirpalani, the driver who recorded the records. "It's like being shot from a cannon. Equally amazing is the ease with which Battista hit its top speed, within just half a straight of Natrax's high-speed track. Even at VMax, the Battista felt rock solid, relaxed, and discreet. This is the future of speed."
