Now that Lexus has made it official that its LF-LC concept is heading to production, speculation is mounting regarding its future rivals, powertrain, and eventual name. LF-LC won't stick around. More than likely, Lexus will take this opportunity to revive the SC nameplate, last seen in 2010. For those who recall, the original Lexus SC debuted way back in 1991. It was well received, but its 2001 successor didn't garner the same reception. The second gen SC was a bloated coupe with a folding hardtop.

It wasn't particularly stylish and drove more like a cruiser than an actual sports car. When it was dropped in 2010 no one was particularly heartbroken. But the SC name still has recognition and Lexus just so happens to be developing a new high-end sports car. A recent report from Autocar is claiming that Lexus is very likely to go with the SC name. The car is also set to directly challenge the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo. It'll be front-engined and rear-wheel-drive, and powered by a V8 and an electric motor. Target output is said to be at least 480 horsepower.
