If you've never heard of David Brown Automotive, allow us to enlighten you. Founded by the man of the same name, this British boutique car company specializes in retro-inspired luxury performance cars. Its first creation was the sensational Speedback, a classy GT car based on the Jaguar XKR with a design that pays homage to the timeless Aston Martin DB5, an icon of the 1960s grand touring era. Yes, it's as quintessentially British as it sounds.

Now, the David Brown Automotive Speedback GT, to give it its full name, is getting an update, with two new models heading to this year's Geneva Motor Show. David Brown Automotive says that the 2017 edition of the Speedback GT will feature 237 changes to the 2014 prototype with "further refinements in design and engineering" of the grand tourer. Under the hood lies a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine from a Jaguar XKR that produces 510 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque – that's enough to get from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 155 mph. If that's not enough power, option upgrades will also be available.

To give you an idea of the extreme and exquisite craftsmanship that goes into building the Speedback GT, it takes over 7,200 hours to build the grand tourer from concept to finish. 142 high quality aluminium panels are installed, with only the windshield frame transferred from the XKR. Just the paintwork alone takes eight weeks, since the Speedback GT has 18 layers of paint. As you would expect, it's made to your exact specification. David Brown Automotive is making sure that only the very privileged to have any hope of affording one. Want to guess the asking price? You're probably wrong, because the Speedback GT costs around $633,000. Go ahead and try justifying that price to yourself.
