As far as crossovers go, the BMW X2 Concept is one of the better looking ones around. Originally touted for possible production way back in 2014, the concept version of the car caused quite the stir at the Paris Motor Show, even getting more attention that the bigger planned offerings from the automaker. The car is set to compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLA, a streetcar that is a little raised over the other cars in the range with accessories available to suit the outdoorsy types.

The concept version of the X2 is a lot beefier than the Mercedes with wider arches, bigger wheels and what looks to be some decent protection from solid objects that may be encountered when not driving on the street. The rear has quite a wide departure angle, but the front doesn't quite match with the bumper, which looks more like one of BMW's streetcars. Of course it's a soft-roader at best, not an offroader, so that's not really too much of an issue. Just like the X2 Concept's upside down signature BMW kidney grilles, the real purpose of an X2 would be to flip the competition on it's head, and it may just do that if the production version's styling is anything like we see on the concept car.

The main point is really for BMW to offer it's fans and clients a car like this in the real world so that they need not look to the competition to find a car that will suit their lifestyle. Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW's Senior Vice President of Design said; "The BMW Concept X2 is a vehicle for active people looking for a combination of enjoyment and practicality." And it looks set to be just that. One thing we'd like to know is if BMW's M Division will get hold of one to turn into a powerhouse, because with a Mercedes-AMG GLA out there, BMW would need to have something to properly compete against it. Practical and fast will be an epic combination in our book. Produce this already BMW!
