The Volkswagen Golf family just became a little sweeter. Having its official debut at this year's LA Auto Show is the Golf R Variant, essentially a wagon version of the Golf R hot hatch. Power comes from the same turbocharged 2.0-liter direct injection four banger, delivering a total of 296 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a standard six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. VW claims the Golf R Variant will go from 0-62 mph in just 5.1 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

The exterior has been given some distinguishable markings such as a new R design bumper, a high-gloss black diffuser, four chrome exhaust tips, "aero-flaps" on the D-pillars, cherry-red taillights and LED license plate lighting. Bi-xenon headlights with integrated daytime running lights are also standard as are plenty of "R" logos. The interior features sports seats with a fabric and Alcantara material mix. A Nappa Carbon leather package is optional. One pretty kick ass feature is the Driving Profile Selector and its five unique driving modes. Pricing has yet to be announced. VW claims the Golf R Variant will go on sale in Europe in the spring of 2015. Will it come to the US? We really hope so.
