Early '90s mullets also not expected to return.
Ever since 2013's "Rush", there's been growing interest in Hollywood for potential blockbuster race car-themed movies. For example, Tom Cruise is rumored to star as Carroll Shelby in an upcoming film adaption of A.J. Baime's "Go Like Hell". Christian Bale just dropped out of playing Enzo Ferrari in a biopic directed by Michael Mann, but there's another project about the Ferrari founder with Robert De Niro in the role also in the works. There's even a Lamborghini movie planned. And now, according to a report from Variety, MGM wants to make a NASCAR movie.
The so far untitled film is still in the very early stages of development, but there hasn't been a major NASCAR-themed movie since Tom Cruise starred in 1991's "Days of Thunder." Plot details about the new film are still being kept under wraps, but MGM has tapped Fox hit drama "Empire" co-executive producer Robert Munic to write the script set in the racing community. No release date has been announced.
