Honda giveth and Honda taketh when it comes to US-spec Type R.
Honda captured our curiosity with the announcement of aNorth American Civic Type-R and now it has our attention with the news of itsrelease date. In short: expect to wait a long time if you want to get your hands on one. How long are we talking? John Mendel, Honda’s executive vice president in the US, told AutoGuide thewait could stretch until 2018. He went on to say that he hopes the wait isn’tthat long but provided no other details regarding the release.
Waiting until 2018 for a Civic Type-R would be a giant painfor sure. The 10th-generation Civic should help make the wait bearable with itsfocus on performance. Still, it’s a bit crappy to tell everyone that the Type Ris coming and then give a potential release date that’s three years down theroad. How damn hard is it to get the hot hatch from the UK (where it’s made) tothe US?There is some good news, as Mendel confirmed there would beno sales cap, saying "I hope we could sell a couple thousand a month." Whatyear that month will be in remains to be seen.
