Outside of the opulent, expensive, over-the-top Escalade, the new Cadillac XT6 is the flagship in Cadillac's utility vehicle lineup, with a rich featureset, seating for seven, and a starting price north of $50,000. Okay, so $50,000 isn't all that much in the realm of luxury passenger cars, but it's a fair amount for a Cadillac, whose lineup starts just a sliver north of $30,000.

Now, Cadillac's flagship XT6 crossover is set to become even more accessible as it enters its sophomore year on the market, thanks to a new four-cylinder "Luxury" trim level that will start even below the "Premium Luxury" trim - currently the XT6's starting point.

The 2021 Cadillac XT6 Luxury will call upon the same turbocharged, 2.0L four-cylinder gas motor that serves as the base engine in the much cheaper Cadillac XT4. Here, as in the XT4, it will pump out 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque - enough to motivate the larger, heavier XT6 to 60 mph... eventually. The same familiar nine-speed automatic transmission will do the shifting, and AWD will be on offer as a $2,000 option.

But just because the Luxury trim is a cut below the Premium Luxury and Sport trims doesn't mean it's lost its sense of "premium." It will ship standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, an eight-inch infotainment screen, faux-leather-wrapped seats, and stylish brushed aluminum trim.

The new XT6 Luxury base model will start at $47,895 before tax, destination, and other fees - a full $4,800 below the Premium Luxury and some $9,200 less than the Sport. And for the first time, all three models in the range will feature standard wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Previously, those in-car mobile connectivity services required a USB tether.

Look for the new, more modestly priced 2021 Cadillac XT6 Luxury to land in dealerships starting this fall.
