Chevrolet Corvettes have been the sports car of choice for thieves over the course of the last 60 years. Since the Corvette hit the market in 1953, over 90,000 models have been stolen according to the insurance company's National Insurance Crime Bureau. What's shocking is that that number is six percent of the total 1,526,747 'Vettes built since its inception. Even more shocking is the rates of thievery over the past 30 years. One in ten Corvettes have been stolen during that time, a shocking rate of 10 percent.

The most stolen Corvette of all time was the C4, and the 1984 model especially. As GMAuthority notes, 17 percent, or 8,554 units of the 51,547 models built that year over the course of time have been stolen. The NICB used date starting with the 300 original C1-generation Corvettes built in 1953 to the C6-generation built in 2001. The top three states for Corvette theft were California, with over 14,000 thefts, followed by Florida with 8,731 and Texas with 8,198. New York, Michigan, New Jersey, Illinois, Massachusetts, Ohio and Missouri round out the top ten list.

The top ten states constitute 70 percent of all Chevrolet Corvette theft. Check out the NICB's video of a stolen 1965 Corvette Stingray that had been stolen and recovered 39 years later.
