Thieves Trash NFL Star's McLaren 720S

Crash / Comments

Police believe the McLaren 720S crashed into one of the getaway cars.

Not everyone can afford to buy a McLaren 720S, but that doesn't give you the right to steal someone else's pride and joy. In Weddington, North Carolina, two juveniles stole a McLaren 720S owned by former NFL player Thomas Davis Sr. and took the supercar for a joyride. The fun didn't last long, however, because the car was found abandoned and wrecked less than a mile away from the former football star's home.

According to the Union County Sheriff's Office, the two thieves broke into the house and searched through several unlocked vehicles in the driveway before gaining access to the garage where the McLaren was parked.

The suspects then drove the 720S out of the garage and onto a residential road. The male driver must have underestimated the incredible performance of the 720S because he lost control and crashed. Ironically, police believe the 720S crashed into a getaway vehicle that was also used in the theft.

Davis discovered his McLaren 720S had been stolen when neighbors told him the car had been damaged by the thieves. He also noticed that most of the cars on the driveway had open doors and trunks.

Photos shared by Davis show the aftermath of the crash that left the bright green McLaren 720S with a damaged driver's side door and rear quarter panel.

One of the rear wheels was also dislodged in the crash, so the car could be a total loss. Even if it can be salvaged, it's going to take a lot of work to restore this mangled McLaren back to its former glory. The investigation is still ongoing and Davis is offering a cash reward to anyone who can identify the thieves who took his McLaren.

"If any of you recognize either one of these idiots that decided it was good idea to come into my home and go through all of my cars and even steal and wreck my McLaren," he wrote on Instagram. "I'm offering a cash reward for anyone that can help identify who these guys are!" Security camera footage clearly shows their faces, so it hopefully won't be long until police can identify and track these thieves down.
