Unfortunately for Jeep its new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk leaked a bit early, with press photos hitting the Internet last week before the 2016 New York Auto Show. Now that the NYAS is in full swing we have more info and live shots of the Grand Cherokee's most rugged trim. The Trailhawk doesn't go too far off the beaten path in terms of styling. It's still every bit as refined as the Grand Cherokee. However, it does sport some performance upgrade that'll make conquering rugged trails easier.

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk has Jeep's Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system and an electronic limited slip differential. It also boasts a specially developed version of the Grand Cherokee's Quadra-Lift air suspension. Jeep has also decided to make it easier/less fun to conquer steep inclines by adding Selec-Speed Control with Hill Ascent Control. Outside of tech the SUV also packs skid plates and a special black hood which is supposed to be anti-glare. Other notable exterior features include bright red town hooks and Kevlar-reinforced Goodyear Adventure off-road tires wrapped around 18- or 20-inch wheels.

The inside is as luxurious as you'd expect with black leather, suede and red stitching. There's also an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment center. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk will sit at the top of the model range and should be a great option for those who think Jeep's flagship SUV has gotten a bit soft. Check out these live shots from the show floor and let us know what you think of FCA's newest money maker. And yes, we'd rather have gotten the Hellcat-powered Trackhawk but you can't always get what you want, folks.
