What's so special about it?
It may sound hard to believe but it's been nearly a decade since Honda ended production of its beloved S2000 roadster. Built from 1999 until 2009, the S2000 lasted for two generations winning enthusiasts over thanks to its relative simplicity. Power came from a naturally-aspirated inline-four-cylinder VTEC engine originally producing about 240 horsepower and 160 lb-ft of torque. Power went to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual and Torsen limited-slip differential. The S2000 was never a Mazda MX-5 Miata alternative, but rather a purist's sports car that could be a little rough around the edges. That was part of its charm.
Today, it's not particularly hard to find a decent quality used example, though many owners modified their S2000 to varying levels, oftentimes decreasing resale value. That is not the case here.
Up for sale on eBay is this 2009 Honda S2000 with an asking price of $98,888. Why so much? It has only 95 miles on the odometer. In addition, it's one of just 84 examples built during the S2000's final production year with the Berlina Black-on-gray color combo. Power comes a 2.2-liter inline-four. Other features include a CD player, air conditioning, power locks and windows, ABS brakes, and driver and passenger airbags. It also comes with the factory-installed xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights and original hardtop cover in addition to the power black canvas soft top. Compared to today's vehicles the S2000 is quite spartan, which is part of its charm.
Is this 2009 Honda S2000 expensive? Without question, but consider this: it's never been titled and is 100 percent stock. The sale also includes all manuals and relevant paperwork. Chances are this is the cleanest and most original Honda S2000 you'll ever find, at least in the US. It'd be a shame if its next owner decided to, once again, box it away as an investment. Cars like the S2000 are made to be driven.
