It was always going to be a matter of time before aftermarket tuners started extracting more performance out of the brand-new BMW 8 Series. Recently, German tuner AC Schnitzer previewed its upcoming custom 8 Series, which will be getting a carbon-fiber makeover and a respectable 600 hp. Now, Manhart has unveiled its take on the BMW 8 Series – and it could be more powerful than the upcoming M8.

If you can't wait for the M8 to arrive later next year, Manhart's modified 8 Series could be a worthy alternative. The company has tuned the car's twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with a software optimization package to deliver 621 hp and 642 lb-ft of torque. Considering the standard M850i packs 530 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, we wouldn't be surprised if Manhart's tuning package delivers more power than the M8 and M8 Competition.

No performance specifications have been revealed, but it's probably safe to assume this modified 8 Series will hit 0-62 mph faster than the standard M850i, which completes the sprint in 3.6 seconds.

Manhart's 8 Series Coupe is finished in black with a distinctive golden stripe, and also sits closer to the road thanks to a set of H&R lowering springs complemented by 21-inch alloy wheels. Exterior modifications are surprisingly restrained, with the only changes being the front and rear spoilers made from carbon fiber. A new muffler at the back also features four large carbon fiber exhaust finishers, giving the car a meaner look.
