As we recently reported, BMW is planning to reintroduce the iconic CSL nameplate. Set to debut at the Villa d'Este on May 22, the freshly-teased concept pays tribute to the 1970s E9 3.0 CSL - known back in the day as the Batmobile. The concept, BMW says, is "the BMW Design Team's tribute to the BMW 3.0 CSL, a timeless classic and iconic BMW Coupe from the 1970s." Taking much of the earlier car's "character," BMW has endowed the upcoming Hommage with cutting-edge materials to reduce its weight and bring it into the present era.

From what we can see in the teaser, the car's body is framed by massive air deflectors and powerful wheel arches, in addition to an integrated rear spoiler that cannot be ignored. The car's lower section is built exclusively from carbon fiber, highlighting its "systematic lightweight design concept." Though it has yet to reveal it, the company promises an interior that incorporates only "absolutely essential" elements, each with a high-quality structural or driving-related quality, allowing the Homage to display "technical supremacy and formal sophistication." Alongside the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, the company will be presenting another mystery concept at the Villa D'Este Concorso d'Eleganza.
