The 1970s "Batmobile" E9 returns in the 3.0 CSL Hommage.
Aswe recently reported, BMW is planning to reintroduce the iconicCSL nameplate. Set to debut at the Villa d'Este on May 22, the freshly-teasedconcept pays tribute to the 1970s E9 3.0 CSL - known back in the day asthe Batmobile. The concept, BMW says, is "the BMW Design Team’s tribute to the BMW 3.0 CSL, a timeless classic and iconicBMW Coupe from the 1970s." Taking much of the earlier car's"character," BMW has endowed the upcoming Hommage with cutting-edgematerials to reduce its weight and bring it into the present era.
Fromwhat we can see in the teaser, the car's body is framed by massive airdeflectors and powerful wheel arches, in addition to an integrated rear spoilerthat cannot be ignored. The car's lower section is built exclusively fromcarbon fiber, highlighting its "systematic lightweight design concept." Though it has yet to reveal it, the company promises an interior thatincorporates only "absolutely essential" elements, each with ahigh-quality structural or driving-related quality, allowing the Homage todisplay "technical supremacy and formal sophistication." Alongsidethe BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, the company will be presenting another mystery conceptat the Villa D'Este Concorso d’Eleganza.
