This Chevy-Powered Ferrari GTE Can Now Be Yours For Only $120,000

For Sale

That engine swap has made this rare Ferrari’s value drop considerably, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a fantastic driver.

In a land where obscured IP addresses are used to spread trolling memes plastered over images of pepe the frog, the triggered soul is the one that loses first. And whether or not this custom 1963 Ferrari GTE was built solely to troll the Prancing Horse purists, it certainly has that effect on many when they lift the hood and find this Italian beauty is powered by 302 cubic-inch General Motors V8 from Detroit, Michigan not Maranello, Italy. Not like lifting the hood is needed to figure out something is off.

Just listen to the characteristic American grumble coming out of the exhaust pipes in lieu of the shrill sound of that Colombo Tipo 125 V12 usually installed underneath. What the actual frick. Some may see it as blasphemy, but if you’re into this sort of automotive mashup, luck is upon you because this copy of a Chevy-Ferrari GTE swap has landed on Ebay. Perks include a Ferrari body and a completely reworked drivetrain, upgraded suspension, disc brakes, power locks and windows, and rarity as this is one of only 300 series 3 GTEs, which was left over from a documented Ferrari GTO conversion. With 2,005 miles on the odometer, this engine is brand new if that shiny blower wasn’t already a dead giveaway.

Helping send the power to the rear wheels is a six-speed transmission ripped from a Viper. Even the reflective red paint job vets seven coats of clear coat to ensure maximum protection, but the problem is that none of these modifications helped bring the price up. In fact, it’s had the opposite effect. Given that classic and rare Ferraris like these are valued highly if they’re closer to original spec, the engine swap and modifications have had the effect of killing this model’s typical half-million dollar price. The Ebay "Buy Now" price is only $120,000. Because this Ferrari’s purity has been tarnished permanently, we don't see anyone outside of the niche buyers segment plunking down that kind of cash for this.
