If you want to buy a Volkswagen SUV in the US, you can choose from the Taos, the Tiguan, and the Atlas. If you live in other parts of the world, you may be able to purchase the T-Roc, the T-Cross, or the nickel-and-dime Nivus. Are you seeing the pattern here? Although some exceptions exist, Volkswagen's naming strategy for its newest crossovers and SUVs involves prefixing the model with the letter T. Of course, electric vehicles like the ID.4 adopt a different naming strategy altogether, but it'll be a while yet before all Vee-Dubs have a pure EV drivetrain, and Volkswagen needs to fill the gap with new offerings. Thanks to trademark registration documents that CarBuzz discovered this morning, we know that at least one more non-EV SUV is on the way, and we know what it'll be called too.

The documents were filed with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, with the application being filed on March 10 and the publication of the registration taking place on April 14. In these documents, Volkswagen has applied to register the name "T-Space" as a trademark, with the filing covering "vehicles and means of transport." A number of other potential applications have been listed too, but this is common with manufacturers that could later release branded apparel, accessories, and other retail ventures. Ultimately, this trademark filing suggests that Volkswagen is looking to launch a new crossover in Europe within the next couple of years, but there's no guarantee that it'll be offered stateside.

As things stand, Volkswagen has not seen any value in offering small crossovers in the US, and that is unlikely to change. Then again, the T-Space name suggests a lot of interior room, so there is still potential for this unknown new vehicle to be revealed as something that may appeal to Americans. Volkswagen's ID.Space Vizzion concept is essentially a bigger, more practical wagon version of the Vizzion concept sedan, so perhaps the T-Space will be a larger version of an existing crossover or SUV. We'll have to wait and see where this new name ends up, but with Volkswagen working hard to bring new vehicles to market quicker than ever before, the wait may not be too long.
