This One-Off Carbon Fiber Body Kit
The current Dodge Challenger is already a time machine on wheels. Not just when it comes to its age, but the entire entire shape and style of it inside and out. In short, the Challenger embodies everything that makes American muscle cars so fun and memorable. But what if wasn't enough for you?
One shop out there - Six Twelve Auto Worx - may have the remedy: a 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with a carbon-fiber body modeled after the 1969 Dodge Charger. It's bold, nostalgic, and appears to be well executed - essentially everything that a retro-style tuner car should be. And it will be going up for auction soon at Mecum's Kissimmee, Florida collector's car auction event.
Being a 2019 example, this Hellcat Challenger packs a hefty 717 horsepower under the hood, courtesy of a supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8. It also has all the modern gadgets and comforts that you'd expect from any brand new Hellcat: Electronic Stability Control, 3-mode adaptive damping, dual-zone automatic climate control, Uconnect infotainment on an 8.4-inch touchscreen - the works. In fact, as far as we can work out, the interior of the car hasn't been touched at all.
Nor, it appears, has the powertrain. Instead, the differences between this 2019 Hellcat Challenger and one that just rolled off the line in Brampton, Ontario are only skin deep. But oh, what differences they are.
The Challenger - one of just ten built for 2020 - is dressed head-to-toe in retro-fabulous carbon fiber, finished in Plum Purple Glassier paint. Get up close and you can actually see the carbon fiber weave pattern through the paint. The front does an entirely convincing impression of a 1969 Charger, although the rear is a bit awkwardly styled, with an oddly formed depression in the middle for the license plate and taillights that look almost malformed. We're not sure what happened there.
Still, it's overall an impressive work of rolling art, with wicked-looking 21-inch Forgeline wheels (20-inch in front) to put the power down through sticky Toyo tires.
We don't have the slightest what this retro-styled 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will fetch at auction, but remember: nostalgia is hot right now. We wouldn't be at all surprised to see it pull in big bucks.
