Talk about a family thing.
The Caccavos family is not your typical car-driving family. They don't really like new cars, or anything that's not a BMW E28 5 Series. They've happily limited their options. But that's just fine for all three of them, because the only cars they're interested in owning are E28 5 Series. Their first rule of thumb: never spend more than $10,000 on any single car. Family patriarch Dean abided by his own principle when shopping for his 1988 E28 M5.
He found one for just under $9,500. He loved it so much that he bought his wife, DonnaRae, an '87 535is, which was eventually sold to their son, Austin. Again, the under-$10k rule was kept. DonnaRae now drives a gorgeous 528e. And now all three are enjoying everything a classic BMW has to offer.
