Do you think he survived?
Duct tape is a versatile tool that can be used for both good and bad. It helped save the lives of the Apollo 13 astronauts while kidnappers find it useful to keep hostages quiet. We're not sure where duct-taping a man to the side of a Mustang sits on this scale, but Russian stuntman Evgeny Chebotarev has given us the chance to find out. With the help of a few his friends, Chebotarev willingly allowed himself to be duct-taped to the passenger side of a Ford Mustang, face first towards the road.
There are so many ways this could not go well. You know, like a head-on collision with another vehicle that didn't stay in its lane. But thoughts like that didn't trouble Chebotarev.
Several rolls of duct tape later (and a couple of other tape types), he was firmly attached to the car. Someone put a helmet on his head as he gripped the side mirror, and then removed it. It's Russia, after all. Why should helmets suddenly not matter? Anyway, the driver then proceeds to accelerate up to almost 90 mph.
Some safety precautions were taken, mainly that this wasn't done on a highway but rather a countryside road. All the while, Chebotarev was holding on to the side mirror just in case the tape didn't hold. The good news is that it did and did so exceptionally well. A knife had to be used to cut him free from the duct tape's grip. But hey, all's well that ends well.
Both Chebotarev and the Mustang GT were unharmed, and we suspect that another similar stunt - perhaps involving superglue and a supercar - could be in the cards. Watch this space.
