This Homemade Abomination is a Hypermiler More Eco-Friendly Than A Prius

Not going to get you many girls though.

Many of the things about the car you see here are a mystery, but there are a few things that we do know. For one, it started life as a 1991 Geo Metro, a fairly fuel efficient if unpleasant car to drive. It was built by Gene Schudlich (who was apparently at least at some point a Marine), a man who also built a bio-diesel ratted out VW truck that got 70mpg. This car has been around for a few years at this point, but just recently claimed a new record.

It was entered in the TAC National 50 Mile Road Championship this year, where it clocked 166mpg. Amazing. Still quite ugly though.
