One of the first things drivers learning how to operate a manual transmission learn is to not lug the engine. Many people don't know why lugging an engine is bad. They just know that it feels bad when you hit the gas in a high gear and at a low rpm range. Fortunately for all of us mechanical neophytes, Engineering Explained is here to describe in great detail why lugging is bad and how it can lead to engine problems. Unlike the other videos from the YouTuber this talk is pretty dense and technical, so do yourself a favor and pay full attention.

Lugging is of course bad on any type of engine, but it's especially bad for turbocharged cars. Check out this video to see why.
