Famous film And TV cars star in epic TV spot.
You wouldn’t expect to see cool cars feature in a TV commercial advertising a grocery delivery service, but Walmart has done exactly that. Quite simply, it’s one of the coolest and most creative car-related commercials we’ve seen in a long time.
To promote its new Grocery Pickup service that allows customers to order groceries online and pick them up without having to leave their vehicle, Walmart gathered some of the world’s most famous film and TV cars to "emphasize the speed and convenience of the Walmart Grocery Pickup service.”
The company worked with a variety of different Hollywood studios to gain access to these vehicles. Walmart didn’t use the actual film and TV cars, however, but authentic replicas approved by the studios. "This helped ensure the famous cars looked just like what our customers knew from the films, while demonstrating the ease, speed and convenience of the service and that it’s for everyone, regardless of what car you drive,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for Walmart US.
Among the movie cars featured in the 90-second long commercial include the Batmobile from Dawn of Justice, Lightning McQueen from Disney Pixar’s Cars, the Ghostbusters ambulance, KITT from Knight Rider, the Dumb & Dumber "Mutt Cutts” van, the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, and the Ford Explorer from Jurassic Park. The flying DeLorean from Back to the Future and the transforming Volkswagen Bug from the new Bumblebee movie also appear.
As much as we love Walmart’s tribute to famous film and TV cars, there are some obvious omissions. Where’s the Ford Mustang from Bullitt, arguably one of the most famous movie cars of all time? It’s also missing the Shelby Mustang GT500 from Gone in 60 Seconds, Ford Gran Tornio from Starsky and Hutch, and the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard, to name a few.
We’d love to know how much Walmart spent on this epic advert, but it was clearly money well spent because the video has already racked up nearly 17 million views online at the time of writing. Have fun trying to spot and identify every famous car featured in the commercial.
