It took 40 years for the iconic Mercedes G-Class to be redesigned for a new generation, but many enthusiasts prefer the original G-Wagon's boxy, utilitarian styling. As a result, it's not just the Land Rover Defender restomod market that's booming right now. Expedition Motor Company specializes in converting ex-military Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons into bespoke road-going luxury SUVs. The company's latest creation is a 1991 Mercedes-Benz 250GD Wolf finished in white that's been meticulously restored to its former glory and updated with some mechanical and visual modifications.

Power is sourced from the G-Wagon's original 2.5-liter 5-cylinder diesel engine with new front and rear crankshaft seals, new cylinder head bolts, and a new cylinder head gasket, paired with a four-speed manual transmission with new seals and a new clutch.

Expedition Motor Company has also fitted a snorkel to help it breathe easier. After stripping the off-roader to its bare components, the company fits modern LED headlights, custom taillights and grille guards, but the cosmetic modifications are subtle to preserve the original off-roader's rugged styling.

This is a Mercedes G-Wagon restomod done right. To improve its off-roading prowess, the SUV is fitted with new springs, shock absorbers, and suspension bushings, enabling the off-roader to tackle any terrain. The steering and brakes have also been upgraded to modern standards.

Inside, the interior is trimmed in vintage-looking brown vinyl, with luxurious leather applied to the seats and door panels. A lot of work clearly went into this stunning G-Wagon restomod project, which took nearly 1,000 hours to painstakingly build. Expedition Motor Company is currently selling this meticulously restored and modernized 1991 Mercedes-Benz 250GD Wolf for $102,150.

That makes it cheaper than a brand new 2020 Mercedes G-Class G550, which starts at $130,900. We know which one we would rather have. Expedition Motor Company also has several other restomod G-Wagons currently for sale, or you can build your own bespoke creation using the company's online configurator.
