The iconic Batmobile is returning to the big screen in the upcoming Batman film series reboot simply titled 'The Batman' - but not as you know it. In the most recent Batman movies, the caped crusader drove the Tumbler, an armored military-style version of the Batmobile that looked more like a tank than a car. In contrast, the design of the new Batmobile is a throwback to its muscle car roots.

We got our first look at the redesigned Batmobile that will star in the reboot movie back in March, and now the film's Concept Model Artist, Jeff Frost, has shared some new images of a model, giving us a much clearer look at the brand new Batmobile.

The model confirms our suspicions that the new Batmobile's boxy design is a mash-up of classic 1960s American muscle cars such as the Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger, and Chevrolet Camaro. It may look toned down compared to the Tumbler, but Batman's new ride is still badass thanks to its wide track, large wheels, illuminated grille, side-mounted exhausts, and an armored front bumper that will ram anything in its path.

Dominating the dramatic rear end are flared fenders and an exposed rear-mounted engine. Some will argue the modified muscle car looks like it belongs to a Fast and Furious film - we can certainly imagine it starring in some physics-defying stunts with Dominic Toretto behind the wheel. Its armored design also wouldn't look out of place in an apocalyptic Mad Max movie.

However, the muscle car design is a nod to the original comics and 1960s TV show, back when the Batmobile was a modified car rather than a tank. Driving the new Batmobile in the film will be Robert Pattinson, who replaces Ben Affleck in the role of the Caped Crusader. We can't wait to see it in action.

Releasing in theaters on October 1, 2021, 'The Batman' will also star Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrel. That's a long time to wait, we're hoping a teaser trailer will be released soon that gives us a glimpse of the new Batmobile in action.
